Crank no start and the temperature gauge pegs hot?

When I turn the key to start my car the temperature gauge pegs hot, but it has not overheated.

It sounds like you have a weak battery, what happens when you turn the key to crank? If nothing we need to load test the battery and clean the cables, this guide will show you how with no equipment needed:
