Code p0335, crank no start?

Hi,

In most cases, a crank no start condition is related to either the loss of ignition spark or loss of fuel.

Here is what I need you to do. See if the engine starts if you use starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know its fuel related. If there is no change, I need you to check for spark to the plugs.

Also, if you have a scan tool that provides live data, see if there is an RPM signal when cranking.

Hi, i sprayed starting fluid to the throttle body but it still won’t start. i even checked the fuel pump to see if it was working. I removed the line from the rail and when cranking the engine fuel coming i checked the RPM signal shows RPM signal while cranking the engine.

Okay, if you have an RPM signal, the CKP is likely working. Did you check for spark at the plugs? I ask because if there is spark, it should have tried starting with starting fluid.

If there is spark and fuel, we either have a compression issue or a timing issue. If you could, check for spark. You can use the link I attached above to help.

Also, if you record it cranking and upload it for me to hear, I should be able to determine if it is a timing issue or a compression issue.

I listened to the video. It's hard to hear the engine clearly with the key warning alarm, but at first, it doesn't sound good like there is a timing issue and then it sounds like it nearly starts. Is that correct?

Check for spark. If there is spark, the next thing we need to do is check engine compression. If possible, have a helper crank the engine while you record from the engine bay to eliminate the beeping. Listening to it via a laptop really made it difficult. I hope you understand.

Yes, after 4 5 seconds of cranking it feels like it’s really trying hard to start, I will send you the proper video tomorrow with no sounds and also check for spark thanks for your help I really appreciate that.

You are very welcome. If it is trying to start, chances are the spark is good. So, in theory, we either have a compression issue or a timing issue. Low compression can be the result of worn piston rings or timing. If this happened all at once, I suspect the timing is off. It has a timing chain, so they usually don't fail, but it may be one tooth-off causing this.

One more question, if the timing went wrong is it going to damage the piston or valve? If not, I’m going to take it to mechanic to replace the timing component.

It is an interference engine. However, the timing may not be off enough to cause damage. If you hear a knocking sound when cranking, that is different. What I would suggest is to check compression. That will tell us if the timing could be an issue.
