i bought this truck at a great price. when i bought it someone could be in the truck cranking it while another person was wiggling wires around on plug for ecm closest to front end of truck and it would start and run. it got to the point where that wouldn't work anymore to start it. so a local mechanic shop diagnosed it to have a bad ecm. i know a bad ecm would stop a vehicle from starting, but moving wires by the ecm then the engine starting makes no sense. would a faulty ecm do this? if i do change the ecm would the new one need to be programmed to this vin number or is it just a plug and play?

The ECM must be programmed to the car, it is not plug and play I would call these guys they do good work.

I would remove the electrical connectors from the ECM and check them for corrosion because this will cause the problem you are having as well. Also check the engine wiring harness grounds for corrosion or a bad connection, (loose). I would run the codes to see which ones are stored which can be a clue on what is going on as well.
