Crank no start?

Hi,

If you have power to the inertia switch, if the switch is good, it should have power out. The inertia switch is designed as a resettable switch. It contains a small metal ball or weight connected to a spring. Under normal driving conditions, the switch remains in the "on" position, allowing the fuel pump to operate. In the event of a collision or sudden impact, the metal ball inside the inertia switch moves due to the force. This movement causes the switch to open or disconnect the electrical circuit to the fuel pump, cutting off power to the pump. So, if you have power in, it should also have power out unless the switch needs reset or is faulty.

I unhooked the inertia switch and tested circuit one side had power, so I used a jumper wire from one side to the other still won't start, and still no sound from the fuel pumps. I would like to check the fuel pump relay, but I'm not sure where it's located. 1985 F150 XL, 302 fuel injection engine.

It's under the hood on the driver's side. See pic below. Also, the EEC relay can be causing issues as well. Check to see if you have spark to the spark plugs. If there is none, switch the EEC relay with a different one having the same part number to see if it starts.

The EEC relay can shut down both fuel and spark. That's why I suggested that.

I replaced the fuel pump relay I can smell gas now, but still won't start, fuel injected. I sprayed carburetor spray in and it tried to start but still didn't quite do it.

If it tried to start, then we are getting spark to the plugs. Is there any chance of a timing-related issue? Also, I need you to check for an injector pulse.

At each injector, there will be a red wire. That wire on each injector should have power when the key is on.

Also, each injector will have a wire of a different color. That goes to the PCM which provides a timed ground path to complete the circuit and actuate the injector.

Here is what I need you to do. First, confirm there is power to the red wires. If there is, then take a test lamp and connect the alligator clip to the battery-positive terminal. Probe the wire that is a different color and have someone crank the engine. While cranking, the test light should strobe on and off.

I'm not sure about the timing issue. The truck belongs to my older brother, I'll have to ask him. I'll check the injectors and let you know what I find. My brother inherited this truck from his father-in-law who was a great guy, he was our local preacher, and my brother has bad health now so he is no longer able to get out there and work on it, so to make a long story short I would like to get it running for him if I can. I appreciate your patience with this project, I will let you know what I find out with those injectors. thanks
