Truck will crank but not turn over. All electrical on inside work have already replaced several parts and still won't turn over.

Hi,

In most crank no-start conditions, the cause is either a fuel-related issue or an ignition spark issue.

Do me a favor. Try this and let me know what you find. First, see if the engine will start if you use starting fluid. If it starts and then stalls, we know it is a fuel related issue. If there is no change, I need you to check for spark at the plugs.

Here is a link that you may find helpful, it explains how to check for spark:

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

joe

Hi,

I believe you are referring to the fuel rail fuel pressure sensor. I attached a pic below. Let me know if that is what you are referring to.

Also, if that isn't correct, could you take a pic of what you are looking at and upload it for me to see? That would help.

Let me know.

Joe

Here is that item I was talking about. It is located on the fuel line under the cab on the driver's side by the driver's door.

Hi,

That looks like the same part in a different location. LOL Is there a part number on it? Also, if it is a fuel line it's attached to, it should be protected on the opposite side of the frame rail.

Let me know.

It also has one like in the picture you sent. The truck has a fuel pump in the tank and a high-pressure fuel pump. The picture you sent is also on the truck on the fuel rail under the hood. The one I sent you is on drivers side where I explained earlier.

Hi,

I went to the component locations page. There is a fuel pressure sensor near the transmission cross member under the vehicle. Does the one in your pic sit near the cross member?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

I have a long list of tests related to the fuel system. However, they are not listed by part. Instead, they are identified by diagnostic trouble code. Are any stored in the PCM?

Let me know.

Hi,

Disconnect the mass air flow sensor and see if it starts. The IAT is integral.

Let me know.

Hi,

Will it try to start with starting fluid? If it does, then we know its fuel related. If there is no change, as mentioned, it is likely ignition related.

As far as the codes are concerned, there really isn't one that would prevent starting other than the IAT. Even that would likely cause it to run poorly but run. When I asked to disconnect it, I did because it forces the PCM into a predetermined setting to allow it to run. So, I am back to narrowing it down to fuel or ignition.

Let me know.

Hi,

If it starts with starting fluid, then it's not getting fuel. I need you to check the fuel pump pressure to see if there is fuel being sent to the fuel injectors.

Here is a link that explains how to check. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but if you don't have one, oftentimes a parts store will lend one to you.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

Do this and let me know the results.

Take care,

Joe

They don't have one around here to test the high-pressure fuel pump. They only have one to test the one that is in the gas tank.

Hi,

I'm not sure what to say. The only other thing we could check would be if the fuel injectors are getting power and ground. If they are, then we have to assume it is a fuel pressure issue. However, chances are it is something getting fuel to the engine.

Let me know what direction you would like to go.

Take care,

Joe

Can you test the fuel pressure in the one in the tank and not the high pressure? How much should the high pressure one put out and the low one? I might be able to test it with my digital car tester that gives me codes if I can get it to run long enough.

Hi,

I believe that is how the high-pressure fuel pump is checked on this vehicle, using a live data scan tool. It gets a reading via the fuel pressure sensor.

And for some reason, my manual is not providing fuel pressure specifications. It is extremely limited. I have access to another manual, but for some reason, it isn't working presently.

The only thing I was able to find was a description of the high-pressure pump. The fuel pressure specs are highlighted. See pic below

Let me know.

Joe
