To start with. Last time I drove the car at the start up the engine coughed and choked for a good while before finally idling normally. Drove fine stared up normally after that. The next day went out to start up and warm up the engine again and like the day before the engine coughed and choked again only this time it cut off. Have not been able to fire up the engine again since. I have checked the fuel pump and pressure that looks to be fine. My question is, would this be as simple as changing the spark plugs and wires or would I need to change the entire distributor as well?

Good morning.

Check for spark from the distributor. Remove the cap and check the inside of the cap and rotor.

It is possible the points are the issue. If you have a dwell meter you can check the dwell to confirm.
