I was in the middle of driving and I lost power. The car cranks but wont turn over. The fuel hard line is good, battery alternator and starter are all fine. My spark plug is getting no spark. So where do I go to figure why that is?

Hi,

Are you getting fuel to the engine? You mentioned the hard line is good. I'm not sure what you are referring to. Do me a favor. See if the engine starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it's a fuel related issue. If it won't start and you have good spark to the plugs, we need to check timing.

Here is a link that explains in general, how to check fuel pressure:

Let me know what you find.

Take care and God Bless,

No the fuel pressure is fine I'm not getting any spark the relays are clicking I switched out my ignition coil and I'm still not getting a spark. I put a test light on the sensor that plugs into the ignition coil box and the light came on when the key was in auxiliary but shut off when I turn the key to crank the engine. I don't know where to go from this point.

Hi,

I need more information. A New Yorker wasn't produced in 2004. Please confirm what it is you're working on. Also, I need to know what sensor you are referring to. A picture may help.

Let me know.

When you checked for spark, did you have the spark plug grounded or how was it done? Also, which sensor did you refer to? A pic would really help.

Also, see if you can get any codes from the computer. Here is a link that explains how on this model year. You don't need a scan tool.

That is the camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor I replaced along with the ignition coil. I have power to the coil but still no spark. Also when I check the dash for error codes I get 3 55 which doesn't make sense.

Hi,

Code 3 indicates there is no camshaft position sensor signal. Code 55 indicates the system test is complete.

I suspect code 3 is what is preventing the engine from starting. Take a look at the attached pics. There are the diagnostics specific to this code and vehicle. See if you are comfortable performing them.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

I've already bought a new ignition coil camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor and according to the multimeter my coil is getting power. I just still have no spark.

Another mechanic friend of mine said it might be the computer that's under the air filter.

Hi,

It certainly could be a computer issue. However, the only way to determine if that is the source of the problem and not the sensor is to perform the diagnostics. That way you can eliminate a wiring issue between the two.

I ended up getting a whole new connection port for it as well because the wires were messed up but that didn't solve my problem.

Hi,

According to the codes, you have no camshaft position sensor signal. What I suggest is to follow the diagnostics I listed above.

I did further research and if the code is 355 and not 3 - 55, that indicates a problem with the coil for cylinder 5. Although there may be power to the coil, it may not be enough.

Do me a favor. Switch the ASD relay with a different one that has the same part number. See pic 1 for location.
