I just did a water pump on a 2005 Chevrolet truck with that same engine. Just filled the coolant and let it warm and topped it off. What problem are you having? I have not seen those have air pocket issues. I did a radiator on that same year Yukon and no problems with air in the cooling system.

Do you meant engine coolant or air conditioning refrigerant?
