When it turns cool the temperature gauge goes to zero and the electric fans stay running. The A/C doesn't work either.
When it warms up (above 65) the temperature gauge starts working again. The A/C works and the fans don't stay on. I have changed the engine coolant temperature sensor and the thermostat. Did not help. Car hasn't ran hot either. Please advise!

Hi,

That is an interesting one. Do me a favor. Since the colder it gets the more metal contracts, check to make sure the pins in the coolant temp sensor are not corroded, nothing is bent, and everything is in good condition. It is certainly an electrical issue because it affects other components (AC).

Let me know what you find.

Hi Joe,

I had my mechanic tell me the same thing about the plug for the coolant sensor. So when you told me the same thing, I checked the plug/pins and they looked fine. So I bought some contact cleaner and sprayed the plug/pins real good and I haven't had the problem since. Excellent answer you gave me. It has turned cold a few times and no problem. Thank you for your time and help!

Sincere regards,

Ken
