Hi,

The engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT) is at the rear of the cylinder head (left side). See pic 1 Note that if the temperature is low, chances are the thermostat is stuck open and not allowing the engine to warm up.

Here are the directions for the replacement of the ECT. The attached pics correlate with the directions.

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Engine coolant must be drained below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
2. Remove the air intake duct.

3. Disconnect the ECT sensor harness connector.
4. Remove the ECT sensor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

pic 3

1. Apply thread sealant GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent, to sensor threads.

IMPORTANT: Tap out sensor mounting hole in engine head to remove any thread sealant residue. Clean any sealant residue from old sensor and apply RTV sealant to threads if old sensor is going to be reused.

2. Install the ECT sensor.

NOTE: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the engine coolant temperature sensor to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

3. Connect the ECT sensor harness connector. Push in the connector until a click is heard, then pull back to confirm a positive engagement.
4. Fill engine coolant to proper level. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
5. Install the air intake duct.
