We were driving back from another town when the engine shut down involuntarily, we took it to a mechanic and he showed me a bottle of milky white substance. According to my wife a little bit of smoke was coming out of the hood immediately after engine shut off.
I'm wondering if it would for sure be a head gasket or maybe something else?

Normally if you have coolant in the oil then you have a head gasket issue. However, there are other causes depending on if this is engine oil or transmission oil.

The way to confirm a head gasket is they need to perform this test.

Here is a guide that will help with some of the other causes:

I would suggest they prove out that this is a head gasket before proceeding but it is a good bet that this is what it is. Let us know what happens. Thanks
