Coolant hose leak replacement issue?

I recently had a small leak in one of the hoses that is leading to the engine and radiator. The hose had a split as if the thread was thin and it exploded too wide, but split was very small, so the indicator light never came on, we just saw some smoke and decided to pull over. My husband saw the leak and decided to change the hose, now that we have replaced the hose the indicator light is coming on as soon as you crank up as if the car is hot and flashy.
