Went to check water level and water started gushing out

I have been adding only water to over flow tank. Thought I had a leak somewhere but now after driving I went to check water level and water started gushing out.

If the engine temp gauge didn't indicate it what overheating, there is a chance you have a bad head gasket.

Here is a link that explains how to check for a bad head gasket. Follow it and let me know what you find. Also, pay attention to see if there is excessive white smoke from the exhaust or if there is evidence that coolant is mixing with the engine oil.
