The top in my car listed above won't work and is saying convertible top malfunction when I press the button. The trunk button also doesn’t work (I'm not sure if that is connected to the problem). I used an obd2 scanner to read the codes on the PTCM but I am not sure what the issue could mean. I’ll put the screenshot below. Does anyone know what could be the issue?

Hi,

That's a lot of codes. The one that really matters is the B21C6. It is the only active code present. When that code is present, the hydraulic pump has lost ground. That could explain the voltage codes and the PTCM code. I will also tell you that if the B2278 was "Active" and not stored, the module would need to be replaced.

Since both are present, chances are it is a ground issue, but the PTCM may have failed as well.

I attached diagnostics below. Take a look at them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them. Also, note that the ground location (G303) is on the left rear quarter panel. I attached a pic below. (see the last pic) The arrow in the pic points toward the front of the vehicle. Also, that ground is also for the trunk release.

Let me know.

Just ran the scan again after checking for any broken wires and some new codes popped up.

I found out the ambient air temperature sensor had a broken wire. I fixed that and now the dash no longer says top malfunction. But it does say top in action. When I press the button, the windows move a bit and I can hear a motor making noise. Here is the code I'm getting.

Hi,

The only active code is the PTCM. It could be the limit switch or a wiring issue. On the other hand, the PTCM itself may be the issue.

I attached the diagnostics for the code below. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
