If I disconnect the computer box, do I have to take it to get reprogram, or can I just plug it back in without doing any damage

Actually just leave it in a pro has to program it to your vehicle mostly for security your truck may not run if you decide to start it. But it has to be done In your vehicle to match with the security module in your vehicle

Your car won't start then try resetting security if pcm hasn't been changed. If no manual look online for you vehicle on how to reset it.
