I put in a rebuilt transmission and now it is telling me to take to a dealer to have VSC checked. Plus there are several lights on, on the dash. Does computer need to be flashed (or re-flashed)?

Hi Kreston,

This light is you vehicle stability control and I will assume the other lights that are on are the ABS and check engine. If this is the case, it could be as simple as needing a flash but more than likely there is actually something wrong with a speed sensor or other component.

The only way we will know is to have the codes pulled from the ABS and other modules. You will need a scan tool that can communicate with the ABS because not all can.

It does not have to go to the dealer but they obviously will have the proper tools.

Let me know what codes you have and we can go from there.

I tried to send some pic of the dash lights. I don't know if they came through. The left lower, the AWD light is on, in the middle the auto high beams light is flashing, top right the traction, slippery, yellow square with a car squiggle lines behind it, a little bit to the right and at bottom the triangle with an examination point in it is lit. Then in the middle of the dash in the info window it says, check VAC system. These are the ones that lit up when car is running. These came on after the transmission was replaced.

Wow. With all those on and no codes is going to make this difficult because I would have expected there to be some.

Just to confirm this is a CVT transmission and then where did you get it from? Was it a used transmission or did you get it from a part supplier?

It's a 6 speed and the one I put in is a Toyota re-manufactured transmission from my local Toyota dealer.

So after doing some research I think I have a good idea as to what is happening. On your engine when the check engine light comes on, it also triggers these other lights to come on when it determines that the reason for the check engine light can cause damage to other components so it deactivates them and turns the light on.

It looks like the leading cause if you are not experiencing any driveability concerns is an issue with the emission system starting with a loose gas cap. If this is not the issue then it could be a cracked EVAP line.

After this, then we will need to have it checked out because I just don't see how the check engine light can be on with no codes.

There is a chance that all of this is caused by the transmission because it can turn the engine light on as well, which leads me to my next suggestion. If you purchased this from Toyota, then it should carry a warranty. Simpy present this vehicle to a dealer with this issue and explain to them that this issue started after you replaced the unit and they should check it out. If the transmission caused it, then it should be covered under that warranty. If not, then at least we know what the cause is.

Sorry, I can't be more definitive but with no codes, there just doesn't seem to be a common cause. As for your original question, I am not finding anywhere, that it says the transmission needs to be programmed after installation or it will cause this issue.
