I have had a fire in the engine compartment wiring. I think the only fix is to replace the wiring harness to the computer.
The engine compartment connections are fairly easy to get to.
The computer (under the dash) and its connections is impossible to get to.
Can the computer be removed? If so how?

To get to all the wiring you need to remove the dash and that opens it up. It is a pain because there are a lot of screws and clips. They are a neat rig, I had an 1989 in Pioneer trim and my FIL had a 1990 in the Eliminator trim. My only real complaint was the door headroom was terrible. If you were not careful you took a head shot.

Okay, I will remove everything I can find to open up the dash. Sounds like a major project. Any information, pictures, diagrams etc, you have will be appreciated.

With an engine compartment fire you are going to want to have the actual service manual in front of you to make sure everything is correct. For that I suggest getting a subscription to Alldata or Mitchell so you can have the information as you need it.
This site has service and wiring manuals as well: https://xjjeeps.com/#ReferenceDocuments
