Cold start problem?

This vehicle isn't offered in the US, so I have little information on it. However, I will try my best to help.

What you described sounds like fuel pressure drop off. When you first turn the key on, the fuel pump is actuated for a very short time. It should produce the fuel needed to start the engine. If the pressure is too low, a delayed start can occur.

I want you to try something. Do the following when it's cold and let me know the results.

1) Turn the key from the off position to the run position (engine off) and count to 5.

2) Turn the key off and repeat step 1 a total of 4 times.

3) On the fifth time, see if the engine starts normally.

If the engine does start normally, my theory is the likely cause. At this point, I would suggest checking fuel pressure when cold.

On the other hand, if this makes no difference, the issue could be related to a faulty engine coolant temperature sensor.

Thank you very much for the advice. The key position advice did not work. I fitted a new battery but problem still persists. I will try cleaning the fuel injectors and see if that helps.
