I took my car for emissions test the other day and it failed with a code p1780. The car starts the only problem with that at all. I ordered a new neutral safety switch I am going to replace that today. How can I tell before I start this if that is the problem? It is an older car and I am sure it has not been replaced in a long time and there is a lot of play in the gear shifter. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thank you.

On that last post I meant to put I have no problem with starting car. Also, do I need to have the car in park or in neutral safety switch?
