Truck runs rough, stalled once, engine light went on code p1033 or p10333. Is it the O2 sensor or nox sensor? Most important, where is the knock sensor located?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

The codes you listed do not exist. Is it possibly P0133? If so, that deals with the heated oxygen sensor/slow response. Chances are the sensor is bad. As far as the knock sensor,
it is mounted behind the start on the engine block. Here are the directions for removal and testing. The attached pictures correlate with these directions.

COMPONENT TESTS AND GENERAL DIAGNOSTICS / Note: disconnect negative battery terminal prior to removing starter.

1. REMOVE STARTER
2. REMOVE FUEL FILTER SET BOLTS
3. REMOVE KNOCK SENSOR
a. Disconnect the knock sensor connector.
B. Using SST remove the knock sensor.
SST 09816-30010

4. INSPECT KNOCK SENSOR
Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between the terminal and body.
If there is continuity, replace the sensor.

5. REINSTALL KNOCK SENSOR
a. Using SST, install the knock sensor.
SST 09816-30010

Torque: 44 Nm (450 kg. Cm, 33 ft. Lb)

b. Connect the knock sensor connector.

6. REINSTALL FUEL FILTER SET BOLTS

Torque: 20 Nm (200 kg. Cm, 14 ft. Lb)

7. REINSTALL STARTER

Here are the directions for testing the heated O2 sensor. The last picture correlates with these directions.

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
INSPECT HEATER RESISTANCE OF HEATED OXYGEN SENSORS
a. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
B. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals +B and HT.

Resistance:
Bank 1 Sensor 1: 11 - 16 ohm at 20 °C (68 °F)
Bank 1 Sensor 2: 11 - 16 ohm at 20 °C (68 °F)

If resistance is not as specified, replace the heated oxygen sensor.

C. Reconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

I replaced 02 bank 2. It is a bit thinner then original 02 sensor but bolts on fine. Four wire connection are exactly alike. Runs fine now. No p0133 code shown. My question is, will the smaller girth size of 02 sensor affect performance of my 1999 2.4l Tacoma?

Welcome back:

First, I am glad you got it fixed. As far as the sensor, nothing to worry about. It is just a different manufacturer and design. However, they both do the same thing.

I hope you and your family have a nice holiday season. Let us know if you have questions in the future.

Take care,
Joe

Thank you Joe! You guys are great! Just a heads up on something I did. Thought I tighten bolts down ( EGR and pipe. Because I got a p402 excessive flow. Double checked EGR and one bolt was gone, others were loose! Wow was I surprised! Fixed that problem no more codes. Anyway to all of you guys, happy holidays. Thanks again.
