When clicking on 7e8 code it says cooling system issue which I experienced overheating yesterday on the first day of the year using air conditioning. The engine light does come on as well as a little lightning bolt. I also have a check gauges message that’s on sometimes and I can see the H/C gauge isn’t going up at all. I’d just like to know what I’m in for and what could be wrong for when I bring it in because some of these places say it’s more than it is just because I have no clue.

The 7E8 just means you have an engine code which you are finding. The 7E9 would indicate you have a transmission control module issue. This is an aftermarket scan tool way of reading the codes.

Do you have the actual P code that you are getting?

If the engine is actually overheating when you turn the A/C on, we need to start with checking the coolant level. It may just be low. If it is, then we should try and find out where the coolant is going which is most likely a head gasket that is starting fail unless you have an external leak.

If the coolant is low, then we should start with just filling it and then seeing if the engines overheats. If not, keep an eye on the level and see if it is dropping.

Let me know what you find with this coolant level, and we can go from there.
