Clutch pedal issue

When depressing clutch pedal, it goes straight to floor. Pedal stays to floor and does not spring back. Pedal does not disengage clutch. Is this a linkage problem or pressure plate problem? Because clutch pedal does not disengage clutch, I can shift gears on my six speed manual transmission. When coming to a stop, I have to stall my vehicle. I nursed it home by leaving car in third gear. I would have to start the car up in gear. I intend to have a mechanic look at it, and would like to point them in the right direction. There are no Audi dealerships within two hundred miles of my location. Any suggestions?

Clutch is hydrauloic so either master or slave cylinder has failed

The car is now at a mechanic's repair shop. The mechanic states that he needs to pull the transmission to check out the problem. Is there a viewport on the bell housing to check the rod that connects to the throw out bearing? Although I don't necessarily believe him, he states, and I quote, "I think the slave cylinder is fine". So he has to check the connecting rod to the throw out bearing. What do you think? Is there a way to check that without pulling the transmission?

Removal of slave will allow to see clutch fork if pedal on floor then and fault in fork or release bearing then clutch would be engaged ie no go. You state can be driven so mechanical part of clutch works. Thjat is check hydraulics leave trans in car
