Need to replace the clutch control solenoid on my vehicle, and I have zero experience but unearned confidence that I am capable. I need some clues, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

I would be happy to help. I am going to provide the directions for replacing it. This is for the overdrive clutch control solenoid. If you have a diagnostic trouble code, let me know what it is so I can confirm we have the right part.

If you look below, I attached the directions. Let me know if this helps.

Take care and let me know if you have questions or need help.

Joe

I am actually still having trouble getting the solenoid valve connector off, or maybe I am just reading the schematic incorrectly. Could I impose further?

Hi,

You can impose anytime. LOL The connector can be a bit difficult. If you look at the pic above, follow the arrows. Push to the left and then turn the lock.

Let me know if you get it. Also, please never feel you impose. I'm glad to help (if I can). LOL

Take care,

Joe

Marcus,

I'm struggling to identify what I'm looking at in the pics. When I enlarge them, they become blurry for me. Looking at pic 2, it looks like that is bolted. Am I correct?

I copied the pic you attached. I highlighted the bolts and what appears to be the dipstick tube. Explain what is happening.

I can see your difficulty, however I have been able to get the object in question off and the solenoid valve off and replaced. My last job will be to reassemble all of these pieces, refill with new fluid and see how she runs. (Any other precautions that you may have about that process may come in handy, just saying, lol) I can refill it with gasoline, right?
Just kidding, poking a little fun and how tolerant you have been with all my naivety. You honestly have been great, and I know that I couldn't've been able to get this done without all your help.
Because of your kindness I will be able to keep my wife from walking to and from work. I will never be able to return such a kindness, but, I can promise to be open to helping others more in ways that I am capable.
This is how her feet looked last night, and I stayed up until 3:00 am working on it until I cried myself to sleep.
Thank you so much,
Forever indebted.

Hello, Joe! I apologize, I have been meaning to send you a note about my amazing accomplishment (fixing my first transmission) and attach pictures of my glorious adventures in auto repair, Â but, alas, I cannot; I threw my back out and then I learned that my prescriptions have run out and I missed my monthly appointment with my pain specialist wherein which he determines that I am not a junkie trying to get high on my medication(s) and continues my supply, lol. I have four (4) ruptured disks in my spine all in a row with pinched nerves (3 of them in a row) in between them, but at least I have my job to keep me busy (14-16 hours/days).

So, I have to wait until he gets back from vacation (during COVID no less) and I can't get anyone to call-in my refill(s) for fourteen (14) days. So, I am hopeful that I can get it reassembled this weekend, since I am off work and I should be alright since I live in a "recreational" state (NM) and I have some ability to self-medicate, lol.

I will try to keep you posted on my progress. I consider myself quite lucky for having met you, Joe. Thanks again for all your help and support! I am very hopeful that there are more people like you in this world and maybe I am just having bad luck with meeting them. I will forever endeavor to be similar, and I really hope that you know how great you are, because not telling you how great you are could only be described as lacking.

Have a great day, Joe. And thanks again for letting me be a part of it!

Appreciative,
Marcus Carter

Marcus,

You are very welcome. I'm really happy to be able to help you.

Now for the back, you need to take care of that before anything other. It has to be extremely painful. So, when you have a chance to get back to it, I would like to see the pics.

Take good care of yourself and remember, you are always welcome here.

I got it all put back together with new fluid, but the problem persists. I am going to get it back on the computer and see if I get another code.

Hi,

When I look up diagnostics, here is the sequence it gives me for diagnostics:

1) Check transmission fluid and level.

2) Wire harness inspection for damaged pins at connections.

3) Measure the oil pressure of each solenoid oil line by using an oil pressure gauge.

4) Inspect shift solenoid C.

You have done so much already. Where would you feel most comfortable starting? Were the wiring harnesses checked and wiring?

Let me know.

Hi, Joe!

I am actually going to switch the new solenoid I just put in with the one that O'Reilly said. I will check these factors first.
I do not know how, or if, I could check the transmission fluid in this model. Visual inspection of the wiring harness showed no signs of damage. Also unsure of how to measure the oil pressure on each solenoid, any ideas? I will visually check each solenoid and let you know.

Thanks again for all your help and support!

Hi,

The transmission fluid is checked with the engine running and at operating temp. There is a plug on the side of the transmission that is removed. Once removed, there will be a small steady stream of ATF coming out if it is full. If it's low, then nothing will leak and it needs to be filled until there is some coming out. I attached the directions below.

Next, the pressures are in the future if needed. I can help with that. Try what you suggested with the part. Hopefully, that will take care of the problem.

Let me know what happens.

Joe
