I have to push the clutch up and down over and over for the car to start otherwise the dash just lights up and it does not start.

check to see if your clutch switch (which enables the starter to work) if it is working or not loose also, check your starter relay in fuse box it may have corrosion on the terminal ends causing it not to function.

Sounds like the clutch interlock switch is bad. Not hard to replace, It screws into a bracket and hits the clutch lever. When you push in the clutch it allows current to flow to the starter relay and start the engine. Look up under the dash at the top of the clutch arm and you will see the switch. It is part # 8 in the picture.
