My car will not go into reverse?

So, there is a safety that you must push down to get the shifter level into reverse, has the car been in reverse before or are you just now getting the car? If you have had this car and this is a new problem, it could be the shift cables need replacement or the transmission is broken internally. Here are the instructions on how to change the cables out but first I would try to remove the cable ends at the transmissions to see if you can move the shift levers into reverse manually.
