Does not drive when in gear

Was driving yesterday and started hearing knocking sounds when I pulled off and when I changed gear. shortly after the car car just revs out and does not drive when in gear what is this?

Does it work in any gear? Have you checked to make sure there isn't a broken axle joint? Does the clutch feel differently when you press it?

We don't have this vehicle in the US, so my technical information is very limited. However, I'll try my best to help.
