Clunking noise over bumps

Hi,

I suspect the front strut mount/plates are in need of replacement. Often times when these fail, you will hear a clunking sound when hitting certain bumps. A simple dip in the road will likely not cause it. Additionally, when the vehicle is not moving, you may hear odd sounds when turning the steering wheel from left to right and even feel binding.

To check the strut mount, the easiest thing to do is this. Lift one front wheel off the ground.
Position your hand as close to the top of the coil spring as possible. Then, push in and out on the spring while watching for movement of the upper end of the strut piston rod. There should be no play there. If there is, chances are the mount is bad.

If you look at the pic below, I highlighted the part I'm referring to. Note there is a bearing in there as well that can fail.

I want to also add that the rear strut mount can also cause noise, so try to determine if it is from the front or rear.

So, I turned the steering wheel left and right while holding the brake and in idle and there was no noticeable or concerning noises. I have yet to diagnose the strut mount.
