The van sometimes makes a mild clunking noise (in what sounds to be the rear end or tranny) when I go forward from a stop.

Good afternoon,

This sounds like a possible motor mount that is worn out and allowing the powertrain to move under load.

I attached pictures of the mounts for you to check. Look for cracks and breaks in the rubbers which would indicate they are bad.

Thank you very much. How can I tell for sure if that's the real problem or not?

You will need a second person in the car to put it in reverse with there foot on the brake and parking brake set and give it gas. The motor will likely move and you need to see which mount is allowing the movement.

You are welcome.

Also, (I don't if it's related or not) the ABS (and sometimes the traction control) light comes on when I'm driving on bare pavement. And according to a plug-in scanner, all the wheels are spinning at the same speed.

Not related at all.

If you want to work with the ABS issue, you will need to start a new question.

We can only answer questions on one issue at a time.
