When I hit the brakes going slow, either forward or reverse some clunk sound comes from the front end.

It sounds like you have a brake caliper slide bolt that has fallen out or is loose, to be sure let's raise the front of the car and remove the wheels, these guides should help:

Oh my, I never thought to even check the caliper bolts. My left side bolts were loose. Thank you so much you saved me a lot of time and a headache of going to a mechanic.
