Ring and pinion have a pattern I have never seen before. Ridge of gear is tapered out to inside, same with ring. Does not have play at pinion, but howls on drive side (softly). Two questions; can transfer case give me clunking noise. Second, axles all the way in and cannot get enough space to remove clips. What gives? Thanks ahead, Bruce

Good evening.

Yes, the transfer case could give you the noise.

I am more inclined to think a motor mount whether engine mounts or tansmission mount.

The bearing could have caused the ring and pinion wear. You need all the bearings plus ring and pinion.

Take a rubber mallet and smack the axle on the face to get the last little bit to get the C clip. They can be a pain.
