Hi all, so i have been hearing this noise from the rear of my car after driving, once the engine is warm. It occurs about 1-2 minutes after shutting the engine off, and it’s pretty loud. Does anyone know where this sound could be coming from?

Here is a video of the sound:

Hi,

I listened to both videos and to be honest, I never heard one do that before. Is it louder on one side than the other? Does it ever seem that one of the brakes could be sticking? Does it do it every time?

Let me know.

Thank you for your response. I guess it’s a tiny bit louder on the driver side? Not by much at all though. Also no, brakes are perfectly fine, as with everything else.

I think it only occurs when the engine is cold, happens to me about twice a day during my morning commute, but not on my commute home (3 hours later), and happens again once I head out during the night. Seems to be related to temperature.

I actually emailed the dealer with the same audio clips and they seem to think it’s either the catalytic converter cooling down or a loose heat shield by the fuel tank cooling down.

I will update once I have it inspected, thanks!

Hi,

I have to agree. It sounds like something cooling down. Steel expands when hot and contracts when cooling. I guess that could be an issue.

Let me know.

So after taking it to the dealer, they claim they can’t hear anything so they couldn’t do anything, not even a visual inspection. Oh well, i’ll probably try a different dealer. However, I am wondering if my exhaust has anything to do with that noise? I heard this today and it sounded a bit louder than how it would normally be, so i’m not sure if i’m just crazy or if it’s not right.

I can’t find the a video of the original sound but this one has more of like a rattling sound in it

Hi,

I listened to the link. It does sound like a small leak. Can you tell approximately where it is coming from? Does it sound like it is under the hood or under the vehicle?
