I have tried pushing the floor and off buttons, then automatic, to try to get the climate control system into diagnostic mode but this will not work for me. Are some of them different?

Should work on a 1997. Push both off and floor at the same time. Then automatic within two seconds. To exit you push the blue (cool) button.

I have tried over and over again and it will not go into the self diagnostic mode. An a/C tech tried it too with no luck. Any ideas?

What is the actual problem you are having that prompts you to want diagnostic mode? Does the system work okay or have you lost control of heat/AC?
