I got out of my car and I heard a clicking under my hood (car was off) when I got back in a few hours later my battery was dead. What could this be?

check to see which relay is doing it or where you can find the clicking then unplug it and get back to us if you know which one it is.

The battery could have been dead /low on charge when you got out of the car due to a alternator not charging properly. That could have caused the clicking noise. Have the battery charged and tested and when you get that done then test the alternator.

That is where I would start if I had the car.
