clicking knocking noise

My car just started giving me trouble starting whenever i try to start it it hesitates then starts sometimes it takes two or three times before it will finally start. Today it started making a clicking knocking noise my oil was a 1/2 quart low i filled it but it is still making that noise is it my lifters or a timing chain please tell me its not a rod help the noise just started today please help i don't want to drive it until i kno what it is HELP!!!

we have no idea what the noise is at this point. we cannot hear it or see it.

get someone to listen to it to give you there opinion.
