When revving the engine there is a screeching coming from flywheel area?

New to me the vehicle listed above with 225 dauntless. It has fender starter relay (three prong) and a piggyback solenoid on starter. Starts and idles perfectly, then turn off with key. However, when at idle if I rev the engine a few times there’s a horrendous screeching coming from flywheel area and turning off key engine continues to run (returns to idle with screeching) resorted to removing negative battery cable to stop. If I start again, idles perfectly. Tried putting transfer in N, pushing on clutch during noise, replaced starter/piggyback solenoid, new ignition switch, new fender starter relay. After removing battery cable to kill engine after screeching event, notice a tick, tick, tick, from flywheel area that fades out. It sounds like when cars just get hot after running but this sounds too regular. The car runs cool by the way, no overheating problem or anything. Can’t find a diagram for 225 with combo fender and starter mounted solenoid. Maybe something’s wired wrong from po? Sketched wiring if decipherable by someone and will try to attach. Any assistance appreciated, Gary

It sounds like the Bendix spring, or the starter is broken I would remove the starter to see if the Bendix gear is sticking out. Please let us know what you find.

Well, I removed the center red wire off fender relay that comes from alternator and now no screeching. I believe when I revved engine, alternator would begin charging and how jeep was wired, the starter became energized which screeched as it was already running. Why the wire coming from the alternator was attached to center of relay is puzzling, would think it simply should go to battery plus to charge. Tested the volts from red wire and was over 16 so internal voltage regulator must be bad. Any idea where alt wire plugged in on left connects? In pic it shows a broken spade connector but can’t find other end on jeep, way I got the car.

Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response.

Thank you, Ken. The alternator is charging perfectly now. I had tested it incorrectly before. It’s between 13.5- 14 volts more or less. I’m still puzzled about the wire in my pic to the left not hooked to anything with broken spade connector on the end. Will try to post pic again. One thing we will fix soon are the grounds. The battery negative to engine block is all there is. Going to install a couple additional straps and replace battery cables with 4ga. Thank you for help Ken.

If it is charging okay I wouldn't worry about the extra wire, just tape it up.
