2002 Citroen Xsara A/C Works on ignition by not with engine

Model is a UK Citroen Xsara Picasso, the air conditioning and blower works on the ignition but does not work when the engine is running. This would indicate it is not a fuse problem.
Any ideas?

could be a bad wiring connection .. could be the contacts inside the motor need replacing !! the vibration is causing the bad connection ?
