Was driving then suddenly the cigarette lighter started smoking and what looks like melted bubbling plastic coming from it.

Hi,

First of all, pull the actual lighter portion out so that this doesn't happen. Then more than likely you will need to replace it because it is probably damaged. Next, do you actually use the lighter or did this happen on it own? If you use it then if the end of it has some build up on it then it can actually stick and not completely turn off. The way this works is when you push the lighter in it just completes a simple circuit and this heats up the coil of wire on the end of the lighter.

Let me know and we can go from there. Maybe get a picture of the lighter so we can see it and that may help answer some questions. Thanks
