Chugging and check engine light

2006 SUBARU OUTBACK
170,000 MILES • 2.5L • 4 CYL • 4WD • AUTOMATIC

When I push on the gas it starts to chug and then the check engine light comes on flashes and or stays solid when I let off the gas I will go away ish. I replaced the alternator.

A flashing check engine will indicate a severe misfire. You need to have the engine control module scanned for codes and post them on here so we can assist you better. Your local parts store can do that for you but if you can get your own scan tool even better.

Here is a link on how you can do it yourself if you have a scanner. Once you provide the codes we can assist you further.
