1999 Chrysler Van Loud Clanking

Hi. My van is making a loud clanking sound. I took it too a mechanic and he said its a "sprung baron"(?) the engine is shot and he'll have to replace it at the price of 2500. The only reason I ask is because a friend took two of his cars to the same man and he replaced the engines on both of his. Please help me, I don't know what I'm going, and thank you for your time.

Hi there,

He will be referring to a spun bearing, this is when a main or big end crank shaft bearing turns on the journal and is destroyed, this will cause a loud knocking noise, if this is the case the engine will have to be re built or replaced, i would get a second opinion first.
