Is it unusual for tie rod replacement at 63,000 miles? We do not notice any play in the steering. We have been told if the outer tie rods are not replaced, that the new set of tires will only last about half as long, as they should. We have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan with over 153,000 miles and have never had to replace tie rods.

Hi there,

If the tie rod ends are worn yes the tyres will not last as long, if at all concerned get a second opinion, and get them replaced if they are also noted as faulty. There is no time limit on tie rod ends, some wear out quicker than others.
