My van died while driving (alternator went bad and drained battery). I thought I could hook up another battery from home so that I could drive the van home to work on it. While connecting the battery the van attempted to start without a key even in the ignition.

I towed the van home and replaced the alternator hoping that it would solve the issue. I can hear some motor or fan running and have a few sparks when connecting the negative terminal.
