3.3 6cyl. Should we replace the whole pump not just the pulley? While at idle and while driving, car makes a ticking noise. Mechanic says its p.S. Pump. I have no clue?

Its possible for power steering pump to make ticking noise if its failing. you will need the pump not just pulley if that is what has been diagnosed. replacement steps are below..

Ok we took out the pump, and wanted to know if there is supposed to be any back and forth play in the pulley? There is no side to side. And the old pulley had a crack in, would that have caused the ticking? And if there is not suppose to be any play, we would need a new pump, yes?

No should have no play at all any direction. If pulley is cracked then it may the cause of the noise and not the pump itself
