My stop lights do not work at all. All the fuses seem to be OK (none are blown) and all the lights are OK also (no blown elements). Seems to be a sensor problem? Is this something that could be fixed by a car repair "novice" or should this be looked at by a mechanic?

Well this sounds like a electrical issue, you should be able to do this yourself. Check the voltage on the wires running to the brake lights and see if there is any power - voltage going through or if the line is dead and let me know, we can go from there.
