2007 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Can the brake switch be repaired by an "everyday Joe", i.e myself without taking it to a dealership?

Yes, the brake light switch is a very simple repair to make. It is held on under the driver dash, above the brake pedal. Just disconnect the switch electrical connector and unbolt it from bracket.
