Engine problem
2002 Chrysler Sebring 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 74000 miles

Car overheated - leaking water pump diagnosed - repair for 1500.00 While repairing noticed oil sludge - recommends engine replacement 5000.00

Question is - just continue with the water pump repair and clean sludge or chaulk the car up as a bad purchase? Dealer says that they could fix the pump and then the car wouldn't even start and they will offer no guarantees.

My daughter (first time driver) is using this car to get back and forth to school. I can't buy a car for 1500.00 but I am nervous given my research on Chrysler and sludge engine problems. At the same time - angry that a 6 year old car is potentially worthless. Any advice?

Well you dont need a water pump for the car to start, I think you should clean out the oil and clean up the parts and try to start it with fresh oil, if it runs then go ahead and replace the water pump.
