The first thing I would do is check to see if any transmission codes are present.
For that matter any codes.
This may be a transmission issue, but may also be a engine management isue such as a cam or crank sensor problem.
This really should get diagnosed by a tech that is versed with this. IF no codes are present, a good tech can have a scanner hooked up and take a snap-shot of the data stream when the problem occurs. This data can then be interpreted to check for anomalies.
What is the condition of the transmission fluid? Nice clean and pink like it should be? I assume the filter has been changed at least once.
