2000 Chrysler Sebring 2.7 motor locked up

2000 Chrysler Sebring 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

friend was driving car, oil light came on. stopped & added 1 qt. of oil. started car & drove a little ways when the motor shut down. Is there a sensor on the oil pan that can cause this to happen?

Low oil won't do it, although these engines suffer a lot from lack of oil changes. Be sure to follow oil change intervals religrously.

Did the Check Engine light turn on? If it did, there is at least one diagnostic fault code in the Engine Computer's memory. That code will lead to the circuit or system with the problem, not necessarily the defective part.
