Electrical problem
1998 Chrysler Sebring 6 cyl Automatic

Whenever you go to open the door, the built in alarm goes off, regardless if you hit the unlock key pad. Its not the panic alarm, its the horn, it just starts going off but the funny thing is, is that it stops on its own after 10 min...? I try hitting the lock/unlock on the key pad but regardless if its unlocked it goes off, you can even start the car and drive with it going off!

Ah, computers, computers, computers! So how have they made YOUR life better? Suspect a problem with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) computer or the Body Control Module (BCM). Diagnosis is best left to the dealer.

If you want to tackle this yourself, start with a used BCM from the salvage yard. Be aware that if you are lucky enough to have a friend with the same car and you can borrow that module, it MUST also have the factory anti-theft system. You can install a Body Controller and an Engine Controller from a car without anti-theft, but either one will self-program the other one into requiring the anti-theft disarm signal. That self-programming can not be undone. That means if you put a BCM with or without anti-theft into your car, it WILL have anti-theft once you turn on the ignition switch. Neither computer will work now in a car without anti-theft, and, it will teach the anti-theft to the other computer in that car. That means both computers will need to be replaced for a non-anti-theft-equipped car to run again.

Any salvage yard BCM will work in your car, but if you take it back out, it will be programmed now for anti-theft. From now on, it will require the "disarm" signal before it will allow the engine computer to run the engine.
