2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser sputtering

While driving down the freeway, the car begins to sputter and the check engine light goes on.
After starting the car a few times or lettin it sit for a few minutes the car runs normal again and the check engine light goes off.
There is no vacuum leak and there is spark going through the plugs, so there is no ignition problems.
What is going on with this little car?
This has happened on three times now.

First thing is first. Get the code read. Even though the MIL goes off the code is still stored in the PCM. Most local parts store will read your code for free.

It may just be a p0300 (random mis-fire) but it may tell you which cylinder is mis-firing or even if there is a certain sensor that is out of range at a certain load point.

I believe your car is not coil on plug (C.O.P) so when is the last time you changed your plugs and wires?
