verification. car is making a grinding noise when traveling but when i step on the brakes it stops. do you think it might be the bearings?

Have the front brake pads checked. It sounds like the pad sensor is touching the rotor (like it should when the pads are worn). When you hit the brakes, the sound changes because of the pressure. If it was a bearing, it wouldn't stop with the brakes. However, it would change when turning.
